Quark Donut Balls

The typical traditional classic bakes in Winter time were these Quark Donut Balls which were fried in lard or any other kind of fat. They were easily prepared with the basic ingredients that were already available in rural households. Depending on the region and the family, the recipes and the names of the lard baked products vary. They usually always include eggs, flour, dairy products and lard. These had to be consumed quickly in the household before the subsequent 40-day period of fasting . Try this easy recipe for Quark Donut Balls, which will definitely feed a larger family or even some of your dear neighbours.

Ingredients:

8 eggs

400 grams of sugar

1 kilogram of low-fat quark

2 pinches of salt

2 tablespoons of vanilla sugar

1 kilogram of flour

4-8 teaspoons of baking powder

Vegetable oil or clarified butter

Icing sugar

Method:

1. Whisk the eggs and the sugar in a bowl until frothy.

2. Fold in the low-fat quark, salt and vanilla sugar.

3. Mix the flour with the baking powder and stir into the egg-sugar mixture.

4. With the help of two teaspoons or tablespoons, cut off the dough balls and fry them in hot fat until golden.

5. Let them cool down and dust them with icing sugar.
