About me

"Hello, I'm Iris, you can learn from me how our ancestors kept their household in good shape."

– Iris von Stephanitz

As a freelance art historian and archaeologist, I have been working for museums for over 20 years and for theatre, radio and television for 12 years.

I am particularly interested in imparting traditional knowledge about living habits, nutrition and household management from the Neolithic Age to modern times.

  • How were the house and yard kept clean in the past?
  • What work processes were part of daily life?
  • How were bread, butter, cheese and sausage made?
  • What preservation techniques were used?
  • Which spices were used?
  • What flavour did the products have back then and, above all, what was baked and cooked?
  • what was baked and cooked?
  • We can learn a lot from traditional household tips for today. Waste problems as we know them today were unknown to our ancestors in this form.

**Our buying habits, the way we organise our lives and raise our families can, more than you think, influence trade and our environment.
